Central China City Encourages High-Tech ExportChina's Wuhan city will earmark three million yuan (361,446 U.S. dollars) as a special fund this year to encourage export of high-tech products.Local officials believe that using science and technology to spur foreign trade will help Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, get better prepared for challenges after China is admitted into the World Trade Organization. The encouragement measures of the special fund include giving discounts and awards to high-tech exporters. Meanwhile, another scientific and technological innovative fund for small enterprises in Wuhan will also give major aid to export programs of high-tech companies. High-tech exporters will be recommended in priority to domestic and overseas bourses. High-tech exporters will also enjoy income tax rebate and the reimbursed money will be injected into their enterprises as state capital. The city government has worked out a list of 50 high-tech export products, involving areas of electronic information, bio- tech engineering and new medicine, new materials, new energies and environment protection. Wuhan is one of China's 15 cities to pilot the practice of using science and technology to promote foreign trade. It is estimated that export of the city's high-tech products will make up one quarter of the city's total in three years.
