Chinese Farmers Benefit From Holiday EconomyChinese farmers have had another source of income as an increasing number of urbanites are flocking to the countryside for holidays. The all-year-round busy farmers never expected that holidays had anything to do with them. But now, some better-off urbanites have begun to visit farmers' courtyards, vegetable or tea gardens when touring rural areas. To farmers' surprise and pleasure, urban visitors are willing to pay for tea picking. The change in the way urbanites enjoy their leisure time has brought market economy nearer to the countryside, making it possible for farmers to get adapted much more quickly to market competition, the article said. However, the article argued that farmers should first turn their hospitality and enthusiasm into various services compatible with market economy in a bid to not only increase tangible benefits but also improve their quality. Holiday consumption in urban areas has brought along holiday economy, which has been extended to rural areas as a link to promote domestic demand as a whole, the article said. Chinese farmers' per-capita income is a bit over 2,000 yuan, compared with over 5,000 yuan for urbanites.
