Cradle of Chinese to Develop Tourism

Central China's Henan Province is projected to attract more tourists in the future. As part of the tourism development program, the province has decided to set aside a 30-million yuan special fund for the purpose.

The province is aiming to make tourism a pillar industry and focus on famous scenic spots as the Shaolin Temple, the Longmen Grotto and the Yellow River.

Officials in charge of the provincial tourism expressed wishes to learn from foreign countries. They are working on promoting tourism and establishing tourism joint ventures with foreign tourist agents.

Henan has received more than 300,000 overseas visitors last year, up 9.3 percent compared with the previous year. The tourism industry has made a profit of 30 billion-yuan (3.6 billion U.S. Dollars) in 1999, an increase of 20 percent compared with that of 1998.
