China Sets Target for Coal Production in Second Quarter

China has set the target for coal production in the second quarter, which stands at 222.16 million tons, the China Coal News reported.

The planned coal production in major coal mines during this period is set at 119.5 million tons, and small coal mines at township level at 57.48 million tons, according to the State Administration of Coal Industry.

Coal production in the first quarter this year has fallen substantially on an annual basis, which led to a reduction of stockpile and rebounding of coal prices.

China, the world's largest coal producer, reduced its coal output to 1.1 billion tons last year by cutting 250 million tons of coal production. This year, the country will force a large number of small coal mines to close down or cut production, and see that large coal mines reduce stockpiles and produce less.
