China Business Summit 2000 convenes
The China Business Summit 2000, jointly sponsored by the World Economic Forum and the China Enterprise Confederation, opened Sunday in Beijing with representatives from over 600 Chinese and overseas businesses participating.

Chinese president Jiang Zemin and Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Li Peng sent their scriptures to congratulate the opening of the meeting.

Li Rongrong, vice minister of the State Economic and Trade Commission, said at the opening ceremony that with China's imminent entry into the WTO, the country will become fully integrated into the global economy.

Therefore, he said, China is bound to create enormous business opportunities for both Chinese and overseas businesses.

During the three-day summit, business representatives will discuss globalization and WTO's influence on the Chinese economy, strategies for opening up the western regions, and how information industry will transform businesses in China.

The World Economic Forum is non-governmental international organization based in Geneva. The organization has over 1,000 businesses worldwide. Since 1981, the organization has sponsored an international business forum every year in cooperation with the China Enterprise Confederation.
