China's 2000 World Economic Forum Called in Beijing

"World Economic Forum: China Enterprises' Summit in 2000", co-sponsored by World Economic Forum and China Enterprises Federation, raised its curtain in Beijing on April 16.

Chinese leaders Jiang Zemin and Li Peng both inscribed for the summit. Jiang hopes by his inscription for a satisfactory consummation of "World Economic Forum: China Enterprises' Summit in 2000". Li Peng in his inscription hopes "World Economic Forum: China Enterprises' Summit in 2000" reaps plentiful substantial results.

The summit has its focus on China's daily increased world roles, influence, opportunities and challenges. Over 600 personages with big clout from transnational companies and economic circle in the world and elites representing Chinese enterprises are present at the summit.

Deputy Director of the State Economic and Trade Commission Li Rongrong addressed at the opening ceremony that China has been ready to integrate itself with the wold economy than ever pending China's access to the World Trade Organization and the rapid development of economic globalization.

Therefore, he added, China is bound to create enormous business opportunities for both Chinese and foreign businesses.

Bank of China Governor Liu Mingkang, President of China Ocean Shipping Group Wei Jiafu and Chairman Chief Executive of Pacific Century Group Richard Li and President of Haier Group Zhang Ruimin made keynote speeches at the summit.

Three days the summit is to last. Important talks on 30 commonly concerned issues like business strategy and cooperation, new economy and globalization, strategies for opening up the western regions of China, and impacts arising from information industry will be held.

The World Economic Forum is a non-governmental international organization based in Geneva. The organization has under it over 1,000 businesses worldwide. Since 1981, in every year, the organization sponsors an international business forum in cooperation with the China Enterprise Federation.
