Chinese Websites Join Hands to Protect Tibetan Antelopes

Several well-known Chinese websites entered a web alliance on Sunday to protect the Tibetan antelopes from extinction.

The websites include Chinaren.com and east.cn.net, whose fund-raising and international co-operation activities are supported by university students in Beijing.

The Tibetan antelope, one of the top priorities on China's protected species list, is an endangered species. The animals live in the grassland in and around Qinghai, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Tibet Autonomous Region. They are usually found in the mountains between 3,700 and 5,500 meters high.

According to wildlife experts, the number of Tibetan antelopes has fallen from about 50,000 to 75,000 in 1995 to the present 30, 000.
