Chinese President Concludes Visit to Palestine

Chinese President Jiang Zemin left Bethlehem Sunday morning, winding up his state visit to Palestine.

Jiang made the trip, the first by a Chinese head of state, at the invitation of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

Arafat saw Jiang off at the presidential office. He told Jiang that the visit itself shows Chinese government and Chinese people's strong support to the just cause of Palestinian people.

Jiang expressed thanks for the hospitality accorded him by Arafat and Palestinian people. He said the warm and friendly reception demonstrates Palestinian peoples' friendship with Chinese

people.

Palestine is the second leg of Jiang's five-nation visit. The other four countries are Israel, Turkey, Greece and South Africa.
