South Summit Adopts Program of Action

The first South Summit in Havana unanimously adopted the Program of Action, a final action-oriented document, on Friday night to clearly define measures, targets and time frames to defend the collective interests of developing countries in the tide of globalization.

Meanwhile, the South Summit unanimously called on the United States to "immediately lift" the embargo against Cuba.

Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings, on behalf of the Group of 77 (G-77) developing countries, raised the proposal at the summit, asking leaders of G-77 countries and other developing countries to join him in the appeal. His suggestion was greeted with warm applause.
