China Firmly Opposes Any Trip to Japan by Lee Teng-hui: Spokesman
China firmly opposes any trip to Japan by Lee Teng-hui of Taiwan, and is paying close attention to some Japanese anti-China force's planned invitation to Lee, China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi said in Beijing on April 14.
"We are paying close attention to the anti-China forces in Japan who have actively plotted to invite Lee Teng-hui to visit Japan," Sun said in response to a question concerning Japanese right-wing scholar Nakajima Mineo's plan to invite Lee to attend a forum in Japan.
The spokesman stressed that it is well-known that Lee Teng-hui is the general incarnation of "Taiwan independence," and his visit to Japan in whatever form or capacity is opposed by the Chinese side.
"We hope that the Japanese government will strictly honor its commitment on the Taiwan issue, and attach great importance to and properly handle the issue," Sun said.
