Commercial Websites Regarded as Positive in China

An official from the State Council Information Office put in charge of the Internet in China lately in an interview expressed the view that commercial websites have greatly boosted the Chinese economy and for their role in developing the Chinese economy they have been positively affirmed by the central government.

On the pending "China's Internet Conference in the 21st Century", the official was quoted as saying that net releases by these websites have exerted by and large a positive influence in China's social development. "Typical are reactions found by news releases of these websites in Western countries after US bombing of Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia last May. Websites in China have become important means to familiarize the international community with the truth of US's bombing of the Chinese embassy and smash the blockade and monopoly of Western media's unilateral reports and random distortions," he said.

Looking back on China's Internet construction in the past five years, the official pointed out that China is by no means late in developing Internet commercialization when compared with other foreign counterparts. A fact to be noted is that there is already an Internet-related economy that has been developed and risen as a new economic growth point in China.

Meanwhile, China building up Internet of its own has attracted many overseas Chinese students to seek their development back home with advanced technologies and management methods from abroad. Lots of opportunities are being provided for a big force of netizens and large amounts of information supply as a great source pool of potentials to be tapped in advancing China's Internet construction.

The official said the Internet has brought China a brand-new commercial pattern and prompted the development of China's economy during its adjusting period and the central government has attached great importance to development of the country's Internet construction.

As to the pending "China's Internet Conference in the 21st Century", he made it clear that the government gives full backing to this meeting initiated by non-governmental organizations and institutions. Through them, the Information Office of the State Council hopes to give more guidance to these commercial websites, he said.
