Over 1,000 Refugees Enter UgandaA total of 1,170 refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Sudan have entered the Arua District in the northwestern Uganda from January to March, the New Vision, a leading newspaper of Uganda, reported on Thursday.Of the refugees, 59 percent or 596 are male and 574 female. There were 204 children under five years old while 436 were under 17 and over 530 were adults, the newspaper quoted Arua Refugee Desk Officer Benny Mike Wafula as saying. Those from the Sudan were from near Juba, the West Bank, Bar-el-Ghazal and Upper Nile region, Wafula said. The officer said that the majority of refugees were sent to Rhino Camp and some would be taken to Imvepi Refugee Settlement in Terego county. |
