China, Malaysia Agree on Stronger Bilateral Ties

China and Malaysia Thursday voiced their willingness to boost friendship and cooperation between them. The agreement came in a meeting between Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqig, who was in the Cuban capital of Havana for the South Summit, and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed.

Li said that China and Malaysia are enjoying very good bilateral ties. Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and Mahathir exchanged visits last year which marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations.

China is ready to make efforts with Malaysia in order to promote the good-neighborly relations of cooperation in all fields between the two countries, Li said.

Mahathir said he fully agreed with Li on his evaluation on the bilateral relations, and that he was satisfied with the momentum in the development of the ties with China.

The two sides also exchanged viewpoints on the South Summit, which opened here on Wednesday morning in the largest gathering of heads of state and government since the founding of the Group of 77 in 1964.

China established diplomatic relations with Malaysia in May 1974.
