The Nanjing military command in eastern China completed a drill responding to an air attack this morning. Defence Minister and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Chi Haotian viewed the exercise. He praised the soldiers for their mastery of high-tech weaponry and their combat readiness.
Nearly one thousand soldiers from the Air Force's logistics department participated in the air defence exercise. The demonstration was unprecedented in terms of its large scale, high tech content and sophisticated co-ordination. After a simulated air raid, the soldiers carried out massive relief work at the aerodrome. They practised emergency responses to be in the state of war, to reinforce troops and camouflage weapons like surface-to-air missiles.
Chi Haotian pointed out the essential role the airforce will play in future wars. He called on the soldiers to urgently improve their combat ability and modernise the airforce.
