Quick Response Smoothes Beijing's Traffic

The quick response method adopted by traffic police has helped to smooth traffic in this capital city, famous for its slow traffic over the past few years.

To change the situation, the municipal traffic administration bureau last year adopted the drastic reform of quick response. This method demands that police arrive at the scene in less than four minutes after receiving a call and complete their work in an average of five minutes.

Over the past year, 43,559 accidents were handled with the method, greatly reducing the traffic jams in the city, which now has over 1.5 million motor vehicles.

Official statistics show that 80 percent of the traffic accidents in Beijing are minor ones.

Before this new method, the city's traffic police usually took an average of 30 minutes to deal with a single minor incident.
