Macao SAR to Deal Severely with Embezzlers

Zhang Yu, commissioner of MSAR Clean Governance Office, said that all staffers of his office should hold responsibility to the MASR Chief in accordance with the basic law and their work should be in the way to back up the Chief's administrative policies.

Zhang Yu made the remark at the MASR Legislative Council on administrative policies in the field of clean government. He said that the main task of the commissioner is to help carry out the Chief's administrative policies for forging a more clean and efficient government and creating an incorrupt and fair society.

Established December 20, 1999, the MSAR Clean Governance Office undertakes responsibility to crack down corruption, advocate clean government and deal with some administrative appeals.

The prosperity, stability and economic development of Macao depends to a large extent on the success of establishing a clean government, and the MASR government will not allow practices of corruption, Zhang Yu said.

Zhang also stressed that, in line with the principles of independence, fairness and taking responsibility and regardless of power politics and any evil force, the Clean Governance Office will give heavy blow to corruption and strictly enforce clean governance to promote transparency and high efficiency of governmental operation.

To the end, the Office will propose for new legislature and amendments by the Legislative Council to laws to invest the Clean Governance Office with greater power to deal severely with corruption and handle administrative appeals, he concluded.
