Geologic Disasters Cost 3 Million-yuan Loss Each Year in China

Landslide, mud-rock flow and other geological disasters are being aggravated along with the exploitation of minerals, which cost an annual loss of 3 million yuan to China.

According to news released from the Ministry of Land and Resources, landslide and mud-rock flow have caused the death of nearly 10,000 people and serious damage to over 400 cities, counties, districts and towns in the past 10 years.

Statistics show that there are 30 types of geological disasters in China and the 15 main ones include landslide, mud-rock flow, ground sink and earth subsidence in addition to volcano.

In experts' opinion, the high-speed development of Chinese economic construction and sharp increase in Chinese population have brought increasingly serious damage to the geological environment and over 50 percent of the geological disasters are related to man-made factors.
