Malaysia, China Sign Agreement on China's Accession to WTO

Malaysia and the People's Republic of China April 12 signed the agreement concluding the negotiations on bilateral market access in the context of the accession of China to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Malaysian International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz and Chinese Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Minister Shi Guangsheng signed the agreement on behalf of their respective government.

Speaking on the occasion, both Rafidah and Shi said the signing of the agreement between Malaysia and China will benefit the bilateral trade between the two countries and will promote the development of China's economic and trade relations with ASEAN countries.

Rafidah said Malaysia has consistently been strongly supportive of China's early entry into the WTO, believing that China, as a major trading nation, should not be left out of the WTO but should be part of it.

She said Malaysia looks forward to China's accession to the WTO this year and the participation of China in the multilateral trading system which will contribute towards the strengthening of the multilateral trading system.

Before the signing, the two ministers held talks on the development of the Sino-Malaysian economic and trade relations.
