Top Legislator Meets Hong Kong Power GiantChina's top legislator Li Peng and his wife Zhu Lin met in Beijing on April 11 with Michael D. Kadoorie, chairman of the Hong Kong-based CLP Holdings, a leading electricity group.Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said that he appreciated the actions by the CLP company to promote the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and its fruitful cooperation with China's inland areas in building the Daya Bay Nuclear Plant. Li said the friendship between the mainland and the Kadoorie family started with late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping and Michael D. Kadoorie's father. He recalled that the two elder men once expressed their longing to visit the nuclear plant together when the construction work was completed. They didn't get their wish, but they would have been pleased to know the plant is operating smoothly today, Li said. Li said that he expects the CLP Holdings and other Hong Kong companies will strengthen and expand cooperation with inland areas, and participate in the construction work in various fields, including power plants. Kadoorie said that it is his family's tradition to cherish the friendly relations with the mainland, and the CLP Holdings will continue to contribute to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong as well as the economic development in inland areas. |
