Ugandan Army Vows to Counter Against Nomadic Warriors

Ugandan State Minister for Defense Steven Kavuma has said that the government troops have the capacity to deal with the armed Karimajong warriors who had been endangering the security of neighboring districts in northeastern Uganda.

The minister said in a press release available on Tuesday that there has been a rumor regarding the government army's reluctance to disarm the Karimajong warriors who came to attack innocent people and destroy their properties.

"Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) have instructions to deal with the Karimajong warriors firmly and they are doing exactly whenever contact is established with them," the press release said.

It added that the government had immediately mobilized the required financial resources and other logistics to counter the attacks and the stepped-up criminal activities by the nomadic warriors.

The minister reassured the general public and the people in neighboring districts in particular that his government has the capacity and will to contain the situation.

President Yoweri Museveni had earlier directed the government army to disarm the Karimajong warriors but so far there has not been any report of their disarmament.
