FM Spokesman: China Develops Its Own EPKM Technology

Chinese Foreign Minister spokesman Sun Yuxi stated definitely April 11 that the so-called China's acquisition of technological assistance from Lockheed Martin in the country's research and development of EPKM is totally groundless and pointed out that any plots to undermine Sino-US relations will ultimately fail through.

According to news reports, US media recently give exaggerated wild coverage over a baseless allegation of the US State Department that China had got technological help from Lockheed Martin in developing its EPKM in 1994. The spokesman of China Great Wall Industries flatly turned down the US State Department's groundless allegation on April 9.

Sun Yuxi made it clear that such an allegation is groundless and China has relied completely on its own to have developed its EPKM in launching Asiasat-2 communication satellite.

The spokesman said that China has noticed Lockheed Martin Corporation's flat refusal in rejecting the State Department's allegation. In addition, he pointed out that CITIC is only one of the shareholders of Asiasat, instead of its holding company, and it has never taken direct part in any launch mission of Asiasat.

Normal economic and trade intercourse and scientific and technological exchanges between China and the US serve the common interests of the peoples of the two countries. The US government should maintain these normal exchanges instead of setting obstacles to disturb and affect them. Any attempt to cling obstinately to the cold war mentality and to derail China-US relations by whatever means will only end up in failure, Sun Yuxi concluded.
