China's Papermaking Industry Needs More Funds

China's papermaking industry needs 490 billion yuan (US$ 60 billion) more in investment to sustain its supply in the face of growing demand.

By 2015, China's total consumption of paper and cardboard will have amounted to 80 million tons, according to the China Papermaking Association.

The demand requires an increase of production capacity which calls for an extra 490 billion yuan investment, or an annual 32 billion yuan (US$ 3.9 billion) investment.

The papermaking association estimates the increased production capacity of paper and cardboard in 2015 will be 43 million tons, while pulp will be 4.3 million tons.

Experts call for new ways of money-raising on the part of paper manufacturers to tackle the money shortage.
