CPPCC Members Strongly Refute Lu's Statements

CPPCC Members Strongly Refute Lu's Statements
Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Hong Kong April 11 strongly refuted Annette Lu's statements advocating "independence of Taiwan".

Participants to a forum on the Taiwan issue said Lu's statements deny the fact that Taiwan is an inseparable part of the Chinese territory and that the people of Taiwan are an inseparable part of the Chinese nation.

Tsui Sze-man, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and director of the Hong Kong Mirror newspaper, said that in a recent interview with a Hong Kong cable TV station, Lu openly advocated "Taiwan independence", which challenged the one-China principle and stirred animosity between the people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

Some CPPCC National Committee members said that the extremists who do not want to see the cross-straits relationship head toward peaceful reunification have intentionally fabricated various stories to separate China, and Annette Lu is the most notorious. Chuang Shih-Ping, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and honorary chairman of the Hong Kong South Pacific Commercial Bank, noted that Lu wrongly advocated "Taiwan independence" and even tried to rationalize Japan's occupation of Taiwan.

Chuang said the Chinese history and geography clearly show that Taiwan is a part of China, and that this can never be changed. The temporary separation of Taiwan from the motherland will inevitably come to an end, Chuang said.

All the participants warned that anyone attempting to carry out a "Taiwan independence" policy is doomed to fail. Annette Lu challenged the 1.25 billion Chinese people who stand behind the one-China principle, and she intends to push Taiwan into the abyss of war, they said.
