HKSAR, China's Ministry to Hold Construction MeetingLee Shing-see, secretary for works of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), will lead a delegation to China's southwestern city of Chongqing on April 11 to attend a construction conference.Entitled "Urban Construction and the Environment", the conference is an annual event organized by the Works Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR and the Ministry of Construction since 1997 to foster ties and exchanges between Hong Kong and mainland construction sectors. This year will bring together the largest number of participants, 136 from Hong Kong and 90 from the mainland, to the conference. The occasion, which coincides with Premier Zhu Rongji's directive to develop the western region, will enable Hong Kong's construction sector to obtain first-hand information on the situation there. "The event will provide a very good opportunity for our industry people to establish ties with the mainland delegates, most of them are senior officials of the participating provinces. This, in turn, will boost cooperation among them in the future," a Works Bureau spokesman said. The three-day conference will start from Wednesday. A wide spectrum of issues, ranging from urban construction, planning and designs, to housing management and land property development, will be covered. |
