BU Establishes High-Tech Park in XinjiangChina's prestigious Beijing University (BU) will establish a high-tech park in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the northwest this May, in a bid to promote the local economy of the area.An official from the Urumqi Economic Development Zone in this capital of Xinjiang said that the 33.3-hectare park will include research facilities for projects involving microbe fertilizer, wind power usage, and bio-plastic sheeting. The zone, established in 1994, is the only state level economic development zone among China's five northwest provinces and autonomous regions (Xinjiang, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi and Gansu). It has attracted over five billion yuan of investment and 903 enterprises since it was formed. |
