China's 2000 World Economic Forum to Be Called in Beijing

"World Economic Forum: China Enterprises' Summit in 2000" is scheduled to be on April 16-18 in Beijing. Co-sponsored by World Economic Forum and China Enterprises' Association, the summit will focus on China's daily increased roles in the world: influence, opportunities and challenges.

Over 300 personages with big clout from transnational companies and economics circle in the world and elites representing Chinese enterprises will attend the summit; important talks on commonly concerned issues like business strategy and cooperation, new economy and globalization will be held.

The summit has been regarded as an extension of 2000 World Economic Forum called not long ago in Davos, Switzerland, which a Chinese delegation headed by Vice Premier of the State Council Wu Bangguo had attended.

The organizers of the pending summit have expressed their confidence that the summit will be the largest gathering so far held in China as participants representing domestic enterprises at the gathering has already been two times over those last year, showing a much far greater attendance than expected.

Bank of China Governor Liu Mingkang, President of China Ocean Shipping Group Wei Jiafu and Chairman and Chief Executive of Pacific Century Group Richard Li have been nominated as co-chairmen of the summit. Officials from the State Planning and Development Commission and the State Economic and Trade Commission and high-ranking executives from various transnational companies like Intel will make speeches at the summit.

China Enterprises' Association and World Economic Forum have jointly called annual international symposium since 1981 and the World Economic Forum has regarded the summit as an important component of its global activities. High-ranking Chinese leaders have all along attached great importance to this annually held summit.
