The China Kunming International Tourism Festival opened in the capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province on April 10.
Zhu Shanzhong, an official with the National Tourism Administration, said at opening ceremony that the efforts made by Yunnan to develop tourism have set a good example for China's other provinces.
Kunming successfully hosted the '99 World Horticultural Exposition from May to October last year.
Shao Qiwei, deputy governor of Yunnan, said that the service industry in Yunnan generated 63.12 billion yuan in added value last year, accounting for 52 percent of the province's total gross domestic product.
Tourism officials predict that the festival will attract about five million tourists.
