China to Launch Nationwide Tourism Price CheckChina's State Development and Planning Commission and National Tourism Administration on April 10 jointly issued a circular calling for a nationwide check of prices charged to tourists. The review is aimed at curbing rampant inflated prices, involving all tourism-related companies and government departments and focusing on admission tickets to scenic spots, transportation fares, prices of commodities and services in scenic spots as well as prices in hotels, restaurants and recreational facilities. The notice urges price-regulating departments at all levels to investigate irregularities such as random price-raising and overcharging, and says that those who violate price laws will be punished. The nationwide check-up will be carried out from April 20 to May 10, and from September 20 to October 10. The two periods include International Labor Day and China's National Day which historically see a rush of tourists.
