International Business Forum Held in Macao

A Macao-Beijing international business forum opened in Macao on Monday morning in order to strengthen the economic and trade cooperation among enterprises in Portuguese- speaking areas, and China's inland areas and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

About 500 representatives of the business sector from Africa, Europe and China's inland areas and Macao are participating in the forum.

During the three-day conference, they will discuss Macao's role as a bridge for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises around the world, trading opportunities in the world's Portuguese-speaking areas, and the impact of information technology on business in the new century.

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, Francis Tam Pak Un, secretary for economy and finance of the Macao SAR government, said that the founding of the SAR marked a new era for Macao, and that the Macao SAR government will continue to enhance economic and trade ties with other areas of the world. "The conference has brought together business partners from different corners of the world, and it will in turn offer varied cooperation channels and unlimited business potentials," the official said.

Organized by the Portuguese Speaking Entrepreneurs Association, the forum will end in Macao on April 12 and reopen in Beijing on April 14.
