China's Railway Earnings Top 20 Billion Yuan in 1st Qtr

The Ministry of Railways said on April 10 that the sector earned 26.81 billion yuan in the first quarter this year, up 8.1 percent from the same period of last year. Of the total, income from train tickets during the three months accounted for 9.98 billion yuan, increasing by 15.9 percent, and that from cargo transport made up 13.08 billion yuan, up two percent.

In the first quarter, China's railways carried 263 million passengers, an increase of 6.9 percent on an annual basis. Cargo transport volume stood at 393 million tons, up 2.9 percent, the ministry said.
