Forum on Urban Digitalization to be Held

A forum co-sponsored by Mayors Training Center and China News Agency on "Urban Digitalization Towards the 21st Century" in China is scheduled to be on May 12-15 at Beijing International Conference Center.

One hundred Chinese mayors and one hundred elites from information industry will attend the forum and important discussions will be held on "sustainable development and information technologies in cities" in an attempt to map out the course and plans of digitalization in Chinese cities.

Activities like feature speeches, urban digitalization and information technological products show, negotiations on item cooperation and field shows will be held to bring about a full utilization and development of market resources with advanced information technologies obtained by IT enterprises.

In addition, a website addressed at http://www.21itc.com will be established for dialogs between mayors and IT enterprises after the forum.

In face of opportunities and challenges arising from digitalization, a project of establishing digitized demonstration cities has been under consideration by the Construction Ministry, Information Ministry and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The project aims to facilitate information transmission on ecological supervision, industrial layouts, communication, resources, population, public security and social services, to promote e-commerce, distance education and distance medical treatment and to bring changes for traditional city management and life patterns. So far, cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Nanhai of Guangdong have launched this project.
