Haute Couture on Beijing catwalk

Young fashion designers from around the world are set to strut their stuff in Beijing.

On Friday, 37 collections from 19 countries will compete for the 8th Brother Cup China International Young Fashion Designers Contest.

Created under the theme, "Prospects for the 21st Century," the collections will display the thoughts of young fashion designers.

They bring to the stage different cultural backgrounds and viewpoints on the future development of fashion.

Since 1993, the annual contest, organized by the China National Garments Association and the China Fashion Designers Association, has become the premier Chinese fashion gala, thanks to its intense artistry.

The Brother Cup Contest this year drew 1,061 collections from 28 countries, among which 195 are from outside China.

This year's judging committee is made up of famous fashion designers and professors from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Japan, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Norway, Italy and Canada.
