Chinese Vice-Premier Leaves for South Summit, Four-nation Trip

Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing left Beijing on April 10 morning to attend the South Summit and pay an official to Cuba, Malta, the Netherlands and Ireland.

Li is to attend the summit, due to be held in Cuban Capital Havana from April 11, at the invitation of President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, the current chairman country of Group 77, and President Fidel Castro of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba, the host country of the South Summit.

Li's visit to Cuba, Malta, the Netherlands and Ireland is paid at the invitation of the governments of the above-mentioned four countries.

Those who saw Li and his party off at the Great Hall of the People included State Councilor Luo Gan, Deputy Director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Bai Keming, Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council Liu Qibao, Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya and diplomatic envoys from Cuba, Malta, the Netherlands and Ireland.

Li's entourage included his wife Zhang Suzhen, Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Vice Finance Minister Zhang Youcai, Chief Negotiator of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Long Yongtu and President of Export-Import Bank of China Yang Zilin.
