Osaka Citizens Refute Nanjing Massacre Denial

Some 200 Japanese citizens held a conference in Osaka Saturday, refuting the recent denial of Nanjing Massacre by a Japanese right-wing group, according to a local media report.

The Japan Times report said the gathering was held at Osaka International Peace Center (Peace Osaka), the same venue of the January symposium of the right-wing group which claimed that the 1937 Nanjing Massacre "is a lie."

The conference, entitled "Correcting Peace Osaka's Questioning of the Nanjing Massacre", was sponsored by a local citizens group and attended by Japanese activists and scholars to refute the allegations made by some 200 members of the right-wing group at the earlier symposium.

"Who lied? The right-wing group that held the symposium", said Keynote speaker Cheng Shanzhu, director of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Aggressor Troops.

Cheng also said the prefectural and municipal governments of Osaka, western Japan, made a grave mistake by allowing the right-wing group to hold symposium at a center dedicated to peace.
