Shanghai to Train Personnel for Space ProgramChina granted the right to train holders of Ph.Ds to the Shanghai Space Bureau as part of an effort to cultivate high-level experts for its space program on April 8.The bureau hired ten people from aerospace universities in Beijing, Nanjing and some other cities, who are expected to get postdoctoral degrees in the next two years. These students will be engaged in fields such as macromolecules, navigation control, spacecraft design and information processing. The Shanghai Space Bureau is China's key research center for surface-to-air missiles, rockets and satellites. It has participated in 20 launch missions. Starting in 1992, the bureau has been working on China's manned space flight program. It took part in the launching of the country 's first experimental spacecraft, the "Shenzhou", in November 1999.
