Former Olympic Champion Diver Wins at Nationals

Former world champion and Olympic gold medalist Fu Mingxia won the women's three-meter springboard synchronized diving event at the national championships in Jinan on Friday.

A super-star with numerous titles from such world-class events as Olympic Games, world championships and World Cup meets, Fu teamed with Guo Jingjing from Hebei Province on Friday to take the national title with 318.30 points.

"There is still room to improve in our performance," Fu admitted after her victory. "We had only less a month for joint training before the championships," she added.

A a student of economic management in the famed Beijing-based Qinghua University, she resumed regular training last year as a member of the University's team.

Guo Jingjing also outscored others to take the women's one- meter springboard title, with 286.95 points. The teenager is widely thought to be one of China's Olympic medal hopefuls for the Sydney Games.

The national championships also serve as the country's Olympic qualifying tournament.
