India, Germany to Hold Strategic Dialogue

India and Germany will have their first round of strategic dialogue next week, which is expected to cover the entire gamut of bilateral ties and explore the possibility of further bolstering cooperation in various areas, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported on April 7.

The dialogue starts with the arrival of German Foreign Secretary Wolfgang Ischinger, who will start to visit India on April 11 as part of the "increasing high-level interaction" between the two countries, the PTI said.

Wolfgang will meet his Indian counterpart Lalit Mansingh for discussions on a wide range of regional and international issues and issues of mutual concern, said the PTI, adding that he will also meet Indian National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra.

According to the PTI, Germany is one of the most important trading and investment partners of India and Wolfgang's visit "

assumes significance" as Germany was one of the strongest critics of India's nuclear tests in May 1998 and had repeatedly asked New Delhi to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
