Beijing Mayor Welcomes Canadian Investors

Overseas investors are welcome to undertake high-tech and urban construction projects in Beijing, the Chinese capital, said Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, while meeting with Mr. Andre Desmarais, president of Power Corporation of Canada (PCC) on April 7.

Liu said that Beijing's urban construction projects this year call for 120 billion yuan (about 15 billion US dollars) of investment, the same as the 1999 figure, and the city government will make every effort to serve overseas investors.

Desmarais, who is also the chairman of Canada-China Business Council, said that the main purpose of his visit is to know the possibility of cooperation with Beijing, adding that his company has got a plan of investment in Zhongguancun, a hi-tech zone in Beijing.
