According to the latest annual report released by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), the top ten domestic universities and colleges for the number of their patent applications in 1999 are ranked as follows:

1. Qinghua University 152;

2. Zhejiang University 71;

3. Fudan University 67;

4. Shanghai Jiaotong University 66;

5. South China University of Science and Engineering 65;

6. Tianjin University 53;

7. Wuhan University 35;

8. Chinese University of Science and Technology 33;

9. East China University of Science and Engineering 32;

10. Sichuan University 28.
