"Grand Dictionary of Chinese History", which embodies the wisdom and efforts of nearly 1,000 experts and scholars and represents the highest achievement in the studies of Chinese history and, after 22 years of careful compiling work, was finally presented to the country and nation at the turn of the century and the advent of a new millennium. This huge volume on Chinese history has filled the big gap in Chinese academic circle, writing down the greater part of the history of Chinese cultural construction.
It is reported that it is so far the first outsize special dictionary of history compiled under the organization of related State department of New China. The dictionary comprises nearly 70,000 entries, 11 million characters and the important historical contents of the dynastic and special histories ranging from the Qin Dynasty to the downfall of Qing Dynasty. The dictionary, which consists of 1,745 pictures, five tables and 24 maps of different dynasties, is regarded as the most comprehensive and authoritative encyclopedia on Chinese history in today's world.
At the forum held for the publication of this dictionary, Li Tieying, member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, expressed his profound tribute to all the experts, scholars and staff members participating in the compilation and publication work, for their contribution to the completion of this huge volume by giving full play to their profound and solid academic knowledge and displaying a high sense of responsibility.
