Ningxia's Forest Park Upgraded to State Level

The Suyukou Forest Park in eastern part of Mountain Helan in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has recently been upgraded to the state level by the State Forestry Administration.

The forest park, less than 50 km from Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia, was built in the early 1990s. It receives more than 100, 000 visitors each year, with tourism income reaching one million yuan (122,000 U.S. dollars).

Over the past few years, the local government has invested millions of yuan to improve the natural park's ecological environment and develop its tourism resources.

The effort has paid off as the number of wild animals in the park has greatly increased. Now the park has over 170 species of wild animals, including 25 species under the state-level protection.
