"Health for All" Project Launched in China

The Primary Hygiene Fund of China launched its Health-for-All Project here today, aimed at providing medical services to poor villagers living in underdeveloped western areas.

Jiang Zhenghua, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), attended today's opening ceremony.

Thousands of health-care vehicles will be sent to the western provinces and ethnic autonomous regions, according to officials with the fund.

The project will help local villagers reduce the cost of medical treatment and improve the services at rural clinics.

In the backward western region, local villagers have been suffering from both poverty and illness, which are mutually related, the experts said. In some remote areas, it is very difficult for villagers to get to a hospital and receive proper treatment, they noted.
