IBM to Build World-Class Software Platform in Xi'an

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) signed an agreement on April 5 with the Xi'an Software Industrial Park to create a world-class software platform in this capital city of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

With a super computer which can do 100 billion calculations per second, the project will cost 20 million US dollars, and more than 1,000 companies will be able to carry out software development on the platform simultaneously.

The platform makes it possible to introduce the world's latest software development technology into China as soon as it appears, said Jin Hui, an official of the Xi'an Software Industrial Park.

IBM listed Xi'an as the top candidate for a software base in the western part of China three years ago, as the city has a great number of computer researchers and software development companies. The company expects that the platform will help IBM expand its business all across western China, said a senior presentative of IBM's China Area operations.

Meanwhile, IBM will cooperate with Xi'an to build a software training center in Xi'an, he added.
