Shorter Hours, More Pay for Chinese Workers

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security recently issued a regulation that will enable Chinese to work fewer hours but earn more pay.

According to the method, in light of the increase of the nation's holidays from seven days to ten days a year, the average work hours per month will be diminished to 20.92 days or 167.4 hours, and salaries will be increased.

Overtime work will be remunerated at the rate of at least 150 percent of the original salaries, the regulation said, and for holidays, the pay should be at least 200 percent of the original salaries.

The ministry has vowed to tighten inspection to ensure the full execution of the regulation.
