China Ties Sweden in Women's Hockey Worlds

China tied Sweden 1-1 in Group B as the women's world hockey championships started in Barrie, Canada on Monday. In another Group B match, Russia was defeated 7-1 by Finland

The United States whitewashed Germany 16-1 and Canada savored its opener 9-0 over Japan in Group A. Karyn Bye and Tricia Dunn each scored three goals for the United States, and Cammi Granato, Natalie Darwitz and Stephanie O' Sullivan each scored two goals against Germany.

In its title defense, Becky Kellar scored twice for Canada, while Hayley Wickenheiser had a goal and three assists.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinals.
