Overseas People Interested in Chinese StudyWith development of China's economy and communications systems, Chinese language and literature is now attracting many more overseas people.According to Professor Wang Shuizhao of Fudan University in Shanghai, Fudan held an international seminar on the Song Dynasty (960-1279) literature recently which attracted over 120 participants, at least 40 more than the number anticipated. Some Asian countries now teach Chinese in their secondary schools and universities, Wenhui Daily reported Monday. One professor from a university in the United States said that Chinese literature has much to offer because it is so vast and profound. The Chinese government has established a special group for teaching Chinese to foreigners under the direction of Minister of Education Chen Zhili, and the country now has 36 examination centers in 21 cities as well as 10 such centers in foreign countries. Some universities, including Beijing Foreign Language and Culture University and East China Normal University, have started training teachers to teach the language specifically to foreign students in special departments. China has also set up over 3,000 schools overseas to teach Chinese.
