Sino-Vietnam Friendship Urged

NPC Chairman Li Peng Meets Vietnam Congress Leader
China will try to develop its relationship with Viet Nam, top legislator Li Peng told Nong Duc Manh, chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam Tuesday afternoon, adding that the NPC greatly values its friendship and co-operation with Vietnam's National Assembly.

Li said that China and Vietnam normalised relations eight years ago. In these years, bilateral relations have recovered quickly and developed comprehensively. He said high-level mutual visits between the two countries have efficiently helped settle some historical problems between the two sides and enhanced bilateral ties.

Li said he was quite impressed with Vietnam's economic and social development when he visited Vietnam four years ago.

On parliamentary relations, Li said the NPC attaches importance to its ties with Vietnam's National Assembly. He said in recent years the two parliaments have conducted frequent exchanges at various levels.

Duc Manh hailed Vietnam and China as friendly neighbours. He expressed his delight over the strengthened bilateral relations. He said the two countries have made it a goal to develop long-term, stable, cooperative bilateral ties. He said this is in the interests of both countries and peoples.

Duc Manh reiterated his government's support of the "one China" policy. He expressed his belief that China could finally achieve a peaceful reunification with Taiwan.
