Qinghua University Supports Science, Education Development in WestQinghua University, one of China's most prestigious institutions of higher learning, has signed cooperation contracts with enterprises and research institutes in western China to support science and education development in the region.Under these agreements, Qinghua will help upgrade the technologies and equipment of traditional industries in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The university will set up working and research stations for Masters and Postdoctoral degrees in Xinjiang, and will help establish long-distance education network in the region. In addition, the university has signed a contract with Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics in Mianyang in Sichuan Province to train 90 professionals working in advanced military technology over the next three years. Graduates will be required to work for the academy for at least five years after graduating from Qinghua. The Chinese leadership recently urged all localities to take every opportunity to accelerate economic development in western China, and development of science and technology, education, and speeding up the cultivation of trained personnel have been listed as the major tasks for western development.
