Movie to Feature Mao, Edgar Snow

The shooting of a movie about the relationship between the late Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976) and US journalist Edgar Snow (1905-1972) has just been completed.

Song Jiangbo, director of the movie "Mao Zedong and Snow", said that the filming was done in Yan'an in northern Shaanxi Province, northwest China, the revolutionary base of China in the 1930s and 1940s.

The movie based on the book "Red Star Over China" written by Snow was jointly produced by the Changchun Film Studio, Jiangxi Film Studio and the Jiujiang Yangtze Film Corp.

Snow first visited China in 1928. He wrote "Red Star Over China " following his 1936 visit to Yan'an.

The book introduced to the people worldwide about China's revolutionary struggle and the legendary 12,500-km Long March of the Chinese Red Army.

Song said that the movie highlights the friendship between Mao and Snow, and reviews the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the period when it led the Chinese people in the fight against Japanese aggression to save the nation from extinction some 60 years ago.

Meanwhile, Song and his crew will fly to Switzerland early next month to shoot a series of scenes about Snow's last days. Snow died in Geneva, and some of his ashes were buried in China according to his wish.

Wang Ying and Gu Yue star in the film as the young and old Mao, respectively.
