Huludao Port hangs out the shingle of its Frontier Defense Office April 3 thereby marking its formal opening to the outside world on behalf of China.
Huludao, an island located in the central part of Bohai Bay, with the city of Shanghaiguan and Jinzhou City lying near in the south and north, Huludao looks to Jiaodong Peninsula across the sea. Geographically well located, with a favorable water level, ice-free year round, it makes a fine natural port run with a long history in northeast China. With Lighthouse Mountain as their natural protective screen against storms, berths are safe and windless in the port. Local officials say that opening of the port will provide West Liaoning Corridor with a new gateway to the outside world in promoting the development of an export-oriented economy in Liaoning.
